Compare and Contrast Essay

In the two stories “And of clay we are created” and “Girl trapped in water for 55 hours…” both have the same situation just different experiences. The young girl, Azucena, in “And of clay we are created” is trapped in a mudslide, but has a news reporter to comfort her until her death. The young girl, Omaira Sanchez, in “Girl trapped in water for 55 hours…” has no one to comfort her; just her hope in being rescued. Azucena’s story has an emotional impact, because of how there were more details about her situation. But, Omaira’s story also has an emotional impact, because her story actually takes place in real life.

Azucena’s story and Omaira’s story have many things in common, one of them being they were both 13-years-old. Another is that they are both stuck in a dangerous situation created by volcanic eruption. They both were fighting for their lives, but died on the third day. Many people attempted to try and help the two girls, but failed. They were also accompanied the whole time they were there; they were not left alone.

Azucena’s story and Omaira’s story also has a few differences. One of them being Azucena’s story is fictional and Omaira’s story takes place in real life. Azucena’s legs were trapped under a mudslide, while Omaira’s legs were stuck under the cold water of a river created by melting snow. In Azucena’s story the news reporter comforted her and he gave her hope to be rescued. But in Omaira’s story she did not have any one to comfort her, just her own hope of being rescued.

Both Azucena’s situation and Omaira’s situation had many similarities, but the differences in their situation made them have a different impact on the reader. Azucena’s situation has an emotional impact, because of the more details it has and how the news reporter does not leave her side. Omaira’s situation has a bigger impact because it is a true story. Omaira’s situation also has a bigger emotional impact, because Omaira does not have anyone to comfort her, so she goes through it alone, only her own hope of being rescued.
