Comparative Thesis

Visual and Verbal V. Random Learning Styles

There are many different learning styles. For me the two learning styles best for me are visual and verbal. There is one learning style that makes no sense to me and that is Random.

The visual learning style is presented with organizational sequences during a class lecture, which I could study by using diagrams, photographs and drawings. This learning style for me is great. Reason being I enjoy drawing, often drawing the diagrams to explain something, or draw it for myself for a better understanding for me.

The verbal learning style is communication through language (listening, reading, writing, speaking). The verbal learning style is a great for me also, because I like to express myself clearly through writing and speaking. I also like discussing topics that interest me.

The learning style I choose not to use is random. Because to me a random learning style is for someone who is a fly by the seat of your pants kind of person. Which there is nothing wrong with that. People use random learning styles everyday and are very successful. The learning style is just not for me. The details to actually carry out a plan bore them. They need reason to study or reach for a goal.

My goal is to earn my Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. After I complete my degree I hope to work for Tennessee Bureau of Investigations. I know in my career field I have chosen, I will be using visual and verbal learning style. I will be working with groups of colleagues and one on one.

I believe the verbal and visual learning styles are a more concrete learning style, because you read and verbalize everyday. You also use your visual with reading maps. How else do people travel , they have to read maps to know where they are driving.
