Company Intranet

Jett has a somewhat limited use of their intranet. The main things involved in their intranet include customer databases and internal paperwork. This is the extent of their intranet use. The customer databases hold simple customer information which helps them have accurate, easy information access, when applying load information to a load.

The customer database holds the company name, address, phone numbers, contact information, and regular hours of service. This information is obviously key to their work, but I imagined there would have been a more thorough use of their intranet. It serves their purpose, but I am sure there could be more use of the intranet than this. They host their own site, have their own server, and have company email address for the different employees. There is storage of documents used in day to day business on their server. This information comes from scanned in documents, and certain documents that are changed on the computer itself. Everything from employee tax papers and hire in packets, to mileage sheets and pre trip inspection forms are involved in the document storage. Besides this there is not much to say of the intranet.

The security they use, involves a normal login during the startup of their computer. This login identifies who is accessing the server and at what terminal. Certain users are only allowed to go into certain areas of the server, usually things that pertain only to their job at Jett. Several employees have full access, but that is limited to their IT guy, the owner, and one other employee that has been there since the company opened its doors.

The company uses security badges that have to be brought within several inches of lock pads to gain access to the facility. The badge used and at what door is recorded on their server as well. This was the most interesting use of the intranet that I found. Jett falls under TSA regulations because of the amount of air freight that they haul.
