Cohabitating is reshaping American Families.

1. The main purpose of this article is that now a days people have changed their ideas about marriage and relationships, and how it can affect or benefit society.

2. The key question that the author is addressing is: what factors lead couples to cohabitate? And what are the effects of cohabitation in a relationship.

3. The most important information in this article is

3(1) cohabitation affects all age groups. More than one million Americans over age 50 currently cohabit, and this number is expected to grow as baby boomers move into older adulthood.

3(2) a lot of people believe that cohabitating can help them have a good marriage in the future, because they already have experience what it is like to live with their partners as if they were already married.

3(3) money is a great factor when it comes to cohabitation, cohabiters maintain that the transition to marriage necessities substantial economic resources, financial security, home ownership and money for a wedding are not always attainable, and represent a barrier to marriage.

3(4) couples that are married are emotionally better than cohabiters, because they tend to have healthier relationships than those who are not married, and that decreases a person's stress and strain levels in their relationship.

3(5) now a days people tend to cohabitate more than in the past, because the fear of a divorce, couples that are not married can remove themselves from an unsatisfactory relationship without a legal resolution, but that could be harmful to children, because there could not be a court intervention that determines custody and support when the parents separate.

4. The main inferences in this article are that couples can use cohabitation as a way to determine whether to commit to their relationship or not. They can also see it as an alternative to marriage or dating. People think that by cohabitating they get many of the benefits of marriage without actually being married, and that they do not need to get married to start a family, but this idea can have a negative effect in relationships, and also affect their children's lives in the future.
