The city of God was a riveting, disturbing, and addictive movie. As the viewer I found myself wanting to turn it off due to the violence and the horror happening to these kids, yet I was rooting for Rocket, I wanted to see him succeed, I wanted to know the end.

The movie was so addictive to me, normally a viewer of only chic flicks, because not only was it based on a true story, but that I had never heard about this. I new there was violence, and poverty in Latin America but where is there not. I mean how much worse could it be there then it is here in the slums? I was wrong. I was dead wrong.

The story of Rocket and Li'l ZÐ"© was raw. It was true. It was real, and worst of all no one knows about this. These are the things that our mass media needs to focus on, people need to know and need to help.

In one of the beginning scenes of the movie the main gang goes to rob a brothel, and Li'l ZÐ"© is left outside to keep watch. Thinking that he is being excluded from the fun he goes in, and he murders everyone. Li'l ZÐ"© at the age of 9 becomes a mass murderer. The sad part is that this is not uncommon. Most of the gangs are made up of little kids, kids that still should have their innocence. The narrator of the story is a kid named Rocket, he is a quiet and honest boy. Rocket has a dream of becoming a photographer and getting out. Throughout the whole movie Rocket seems to keep his innocence during all the violence. He is a becon of hope for us looking in. As the viewer I found myself rooting for Rocket, hoping he would make it and not get caught up in the gangs and violence.

The other main character in the movie is Li'l ZÐ"©. Li'l ZÐ"© is a very violent boy who becomes a drug dealer. He will kill to reach his dreams, and seems to have no remorse for his actions. Li'l ZÐ"© is insecure with women, which is shown when he rapes another Mane's (Another man in the town) girlfriend, then proceeds to kill of all of Manes family.

Rocket and Li'l ZÐ"© cross paths all throughout the movie, such as the time that Rockets older brother is killed by Li'l ZÐ"© when they were just children. Later a friend of both of theirs is murdered when he attempts to leave the gangster life. After a while Rockets photos
