MY MORAL ISSUE

I. Search

What is my chosen Moral issue?

Abortion is the moral issue that I have chosen to discuss in this paper.

Why? Who? When? Where? How?

Pre-marital sex (or PMS) is very common nowadays, I have a few friends who have encountered already pre-marital sex, and I have heard a lot of issues regarding pre-marital sex. Of course, Pre-Marital Sex ends up having the woman pregnant, and if this child is made, there is possibility for it to be aborted. And Abortion is a heavy issue, is it considered murder and a deadly sin. My best friend, let's call her by the name of Krisha, I have been her friend for years, so I have been pretty close to the other member of the family. Krisha's eldest brother got her girlfriend pregnant, it became an issue but the family had accepted because the girl that his brother had gotten pregnant was worth to be a part of a family, the family welcomed the girl. Krisha has two older brothers, the second eldest brother; let's call him by the name of Sonny. Sonny also had a girlfriend, let's call her by the name Jenny. And Jenny was very open to Krisha, and one time, Jenny shared that she had an abortion. It was only early this mid-year. She had explained that it was his kuya, who wanted the baby to be aborted. Why? Because Sonny didn't want to add up the expenses and the problems in the house, having the eldest brother to have a child was enough, he didn't want the issue to get bigger and their parents to suffer more because of the money. My friend knew how the baby was aborted, Jenny drank something, "pampalaglag" drink that would kill the baby, Jenny didn't want to abort the baby but she had no choice because Sonny wants to baby to be aborted that much. But she shared that she went to a clinic after a week after drinking the pampalaglag, where a lot of people were in-line waiting for their children to be aborted. And Krisha's family doesn't like Kenny that much, yes, she's pretty, she's nice, but not a family material. Jenny is said to be "pang-display lang". And Jenny is now pregnant again..

II. THINK:

There are two options or alternatives to resolve the issue:

1. No abortion

Positive Consequences: There would be no murder, you and your partner would not disobey the 5th Commandment. Abortion is murder, because you are killing the life that is already made in terms of intercourse, which is the main purpose of sex. It also has two types for me, if you are in the adult age, therefore, if you get pregnant, it would be okay because at least you can have an option to get married to the person, it also depends if you really love that person or not. One positive thing about this is that you would have the courage to face your responsibility towards your action, you would not risk a life you have made for your own benefit. And a positive thing about this is that you have not murdered anyone, and you have not sinned. It is your choice to have no abortion, it is also not by choice but also because it is against the law to kill life, so you would be obedient to God, and you will become strong in facing the consequences, whether good or bad.

Negative Consequences: If there is no abortion, there is also a negative consequence, there would be possible fear for the pregnant woman. Of course, when there is fear while you are pregnant there would be possible psychological effects on the child, and his growth. It is possible that your parents may reject you because of the act that you have made and they can not accept the fact that you are pregnant because they expect that you would not be like that. For example, you are still young, a 4th year High school student, 3 months before graduation, you were dropped out of school, because the Administration of the School found out that you are pregnant, and it is not allowed in school. You have no choice but to drop out, so you see, your dreams are crushed, your future is crushed. You probably would be too embarrassed to show up to other people who would be gossiping about you. There would be a possible depressing feeling because you might feel rejected to your peers or to your parents. Your self-esteem might go down.

2. Give in to Abortion

Positive Consequences: You would have lesser problems regarding the issue. You would be more aware and careful in the future regarding the cycle when you can get pregnant, and to be aware and to think of using contraceptives for safe sex, or do counting in the menstrual cycle. You would go on with your life, and it is possible that you would not find the abortion to be regret because it might be that the child was a mistake. It depends. In Jenny's case, it seems that she had followed what Sonny had wanted for their child, to be aborted. The positive thing here is that, according to their situations, Sonny's wants for his parents not to suffer anymore regarding the expenses had lessened. The problem of having the other son having his girlfriend to be pregnant is not possible anymore. It would be a relief to Sonny and Jenny, because they had excused themselves from a facing the responsibility and bad consequences.

Negative Consequences: One thing that would really hurt here is that, what if Sonny and Jenny were really meant for each other? And what if the time had come that they were about to get married? It would be very hard for them, because their first child was killed, and it was on purpose. They would face karma, karma would come back to them because what they had done was very crucial. But at the moment they had the abortion, the negative consequence here is facing your conscience. It is how you would handle your conscience, because what you had done is very sinful. Both Jenny and Sonny would be probably bothered and at the same time very worried. "Hindi sila matatahimik", in short, their conscience would not be at peace, because would be very disturbed.

C. Other options

In extended discussion of Sonny and Jenny's issue, you can't be involved in abortion if there is no pre-marital sex. So the main reason that is to be eliminated to avoid abortion is pre-marital sex. Both of Jenny and Sonny can control themselves when it comes to sex, it would be better if they have don't more humble activities such as more dates and avoiding being along in a room wherein sexual excitement can be occurred. Both Jenny and Sonny are already 20++ years old. And it would be better if they went out of town with a group
