BLACKBEARD

The most known pirate of the Caribbean.

Blackbeard the pirate is one person that most children could tell you who is. There have been many children stories, games, and movies based on the events of this man. I believe that he should be included in your exhibit so visitors have the opportunity to see the real story behind him.

Blackbeard's real name is believed to be Edward Teach. He was born in 1680. He called England his home even though he spent from 1716 to 1718 in the Caribbean Sea, this was known as the golden age of piracy. His most famous vessel was the Queen Anne's Revenge. (wikipedia.org) In his life he had a total of thirteen wives.

He was known to wear hemp and lighted matches woven into his big black beard. (wikipedia.org) This probably being the main reason for his nickname. He was also infamous for fighing with swords, knives, and pistols. This made his image the picture you get in your head when you think of a pirate.

One of the biggest myths about Blackbeard is that he used to burry his treasure. There is no evidence of this. Also in all his years of pirating he only acquired about Ð'Ј2,500 after selling his boat and all the cargo aboard. (wikipedia.org)

Blackbeard lived the life a pirate and died the death of a pirate, no dought about that. He was killed by another group of pirates hired by Spotswood for a reward of Ð'Ј100, less for the ones of a lesser rank. They then had a massive battle near North Carolina. When Blackbeard died they hung his head on their bow. (wikipedia.org)

Blackbeard had an epic life and that is why he should be admitted into your exhibit. People should know the true story behind the man everyone has heard of.
