The external factors that are impacting the retailing business of Macy’s and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia are the technological, and economic. The economic factors affect the retailing business of Macy’s and Martha Stewart. It is necessary for the companies to stay current about the emerging markets in the economy and the changes taking place in the existing markets. The customers are always in the search updated procedures and the process in the business and if they do not find them or the company is not complied with the technological advancements, the loyalty of the customer will decrease and there are chances of switching from one brand to the other. The technological factors can also affect the business in the way that if the changes in the technology are not applied timely, the companies have to face a severe loss of their customers.

2. Does Macy’s have the right resources and capabilities for their current strategy? Why or why not?

. The company has the capability and the resources for the current strategy made by them because it offers the customers with the product that are not available at any other place than the retail stores of the company. The Omni-channel is an effort of the company to bring the traditional customers to the online shopping and the online shoppers to the traditional shopping.The customer can either purchase the product by going physically to the store or by ordering the product virtually through the website. This makes it more convenient for the customer.

3. Does MSLO have the right resources and capabilities for their current strategy? Why or why not?

I think that due to the declining revenue in the publication industry, MSLO had to develop a different portfolio of business to offset the losses of revenue they suffered. The company knows that this name is a key to success that is why they launch each and every product with this name like they launched different types of products by the name of Martha Stewart Pets, Martha Stewart Crafts, Martha Stewart living, Martha Stewart Home office and Martha Stewart amenities. The company is being benefited by this strategy as it has helped in offsetting the losses that the company faced in the publication and the merchandising businesses.
