Animal Cruelty

Abstract

 The subject of animal cruelty is one of great significance to the wold these days. Why we humans have the right reserved to treat animals as lesser individuals .Animals are fulfilling their part in the ecosystems and communities of the earth. We, as humans, decided that we are a much advanced life form and can basically treat anything else in this world in ways which we cannot imagine being treated. With that said this review looks at animal cruelty and also how Belize is influencing animal cruelty.

Every day in the Belize animals are neglected, or forced to struggle for survival.  Most of these poor creatures are left in unhealthy conditions with no food or water, they have little hope as they live out their days without the compassion they deserve. Since science has become more advance, scientific research in today’s era is a necessity of life. Therefore Society needs to research to improve economy and the products of everyday. Many times companies test products on animals for the safety of humans. Monkeys, rats, mice, dogs, and cats are some of the candidates used for laboratory research. The major problem with animal testing is the animals usually suffer in a traumatizing experience. Many animals endure burns, hair loss, rashes and gashes.

It’s sad to say that Belize is also engaging in animal cruelty for instance in the case of the Black Howler Monkey that was captured at the Belize High School of Agriculture in the Orange Walk District. The black howler monkey was captured and savagely beaten by four students which a teacher instructed the students to stone the monkey and beat it since it had defecated on him while he was taking a nap in the bushes. The monkey was badly beaten by these student as a results the monkey was one of its eyes was damaged, it had a broken tooth and a busted lip. The monkey had severe head trauma. Sadly days after the monkey died after caring for him at the rehabilitation facility (animal cruelty in Orange walk , 2013)

In our country our Citizens are very cruel and mean to animals. At the Belize zoo they provide a home for animals that are orphaned from a young age, or rescued from captivity, injured or rehabilitated. They find that there’s a lot of hit a runs in which many of the animals in the zoo were left for dead after the ordeal. There are also collectors who like to keep these beautiful animals as pets and the Belize Zoo rightfully takes them away. Animals need very specific and special care. I am so glad that this zoo exists and tries to get these innocent creatures back to their original habitat. In some cases, they prevail in the wild and that’s a great success. In some cases the animals become too tame and they are not able to return. In that case, they become part of the Belize Zoo family.
