he story begins in media rest. The narrator who is one of the townsfolk describe miss Emily's funeral which was attended by some people curious about it. The narrator then uses flashback to take into consideration Miss Emily's life before she died and what has transpired before her lover disappeared. The narrator introduces Emil's father as a manipulator who wants what he thinks is best for his daughter to the extent of depriving Emily of a lover. Years passed and her father died. She denied his death for three days and when she broke down the people buried her father quickly.Miss Emily was not seen in years and when she was next seen, her hair was cut short making her look younger. This was the time Homer Barron a day laborer and a northerner came to town. Eventually, people saw them together often after church. This created an issue of morality to the people so they decided to call some of Emily's relatives to look after her.Homer leaves town and Emily purchased rat poison that was meant for Homer Barron. After her relatives left Homer Barron was secretly admitted in the back door by Emily's butler,Tobe. That was the last time people saw Homer Barron. Years passed and Emily was no longer seen.People started to complain of a smell that stinks around the community but they never told Emily about it. It was actually the smell of Homer Barron's rotting, decaying body. All of these things were only put into conclusion after Emily's death because this was the time when people started to get curious of what was inside her house.
