Where is the truth?

Human beings are always looking for the truth of everything, including the life, the society and the universe. In both, 1984 novel written by Georges Orwell and I Heart Huckabees movie directed by David O. Russell, there is a truth existed all the time. By suspecting everything and trying to investigate the problem, humans gradually find out the real answer to every question and get the truth. In other words, the truth is always existed from every doubt and research; if human ask a question and try to find out the ultimate answer, they will obtain the conclusions, which can indicate the truth. Sometimes, human finds something strange during their research and they suspect their original answers; however, when they continue investigating, they become closed to the truth. They may change their mind during the researching, but they will finally get an exact answer. Consequently, continuous questing helps human get an only right answer because the truth appears every day and everywhere. In the novel 1984, Winston is looking for the truth about the party and the country because he thinks there is something else behind his real life, while Albert has same idea in the movie I Heart Huckabees.

In 1984, Winston suspects the existence of the Big Brother and the reality in his life; hence, he tries to write diary to record every detail, which he finds and thinks, and break the rules, which bans him from having sex, in order to ascertain the party lies to people. When he tries to write the diary at the first time, Winston is "suffering from cramp" and starts questioning if the action the party has is correct or not (Orwell 7). Never having this feeling before, Winston realizes there is something wrong in his life but he cannot figure out the exact reason. Through the observation in the Ministry of Truth, he starts doubting if the truth he works is real; the thought of Winston gradually betrays the party, so he writes "thoughtcrime IS death" in his diary (Orwell 24). Although he does not start suspect about the Big Brother this time, Winston becomes rational about the society he is in and tries to figure out if there is any truth existed, like the world he lives in actually is "monstrous" (Orwell 22). Comparing to the memory, Winston starts querying the present-life he has because he wonder "why should one feel it to be intolerable unless one had some kind of ancestral memory that things had once been different" (Orwell 52). The work in the Ministry of Truth helps Winston get close to the truth because the more he sees in the ministry, the more truth he realizes; the real story of the three people, for instance, implies the essence of the party. Therefore, when he receives the book from O'Brien, Winston thinks he has the evidence about the party lies to the people. However, during his reintegration, Winston hears shocking news from O'Brien: the party compiles the book, The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism, to make another lie to control the people. The party uses the Big Brother to control most people and uses the theory of "Emmanuel Goldstein" to lead the minority to find "a truth" and control them. Finally, the truth for Winston is the party is a liar but he has to trust it and love the Big Brother.

By continuing suspecting and investigating, Winston finds the truth of the party and the country in the end; similarly, in I Heart Huckabees by researching all the time, Albert finds the "inner connection thing is definitely for real" (Russell 100min33sec). In the beginning of the movie, Albert visits Vivian and Bernard to look for the connection between the African guy and him. He thinks there is something meaningful but he cannot figure out the exact truth about the reality, so he asks for help from Vivian and Bernard.
