Drugs in Prison

The prison system has many diverse interpretations. A lot of people think that jail is just a place for rehabilitation. Others may think of it as only a punishment for making bad decision. Despite of how people's views are about prison, one thing that it may be a surprise for many is the use of illegal drugs by the inmates. There are also an astonishing number of unpublicized deaths among the inmate population due to drug overdoses that could have been prevented.

Prisons are intended mainly to keep people inside, and they focus less on what is actually coming in. Regardless of the stress, the expectation of a facility that has total power over the population should be a drug free environment. Still drugs are making their way illegally and undetected. Some inmates get their hand on this illegal drugs easier than when they out on the streets. They are many ways to smuggles drugs and the ingenious methods used by the inmates are nothing short of impressive.

In order to get their drugs some inmates will have someone toss a packet over the walls into the exercise yards. They gather around in circle to cover it up and some may even stage fights to distract the guards while the get the goods. Another way is "Plugging" which means hiding the drugs in their rectum. As dangerously as it sounds even knifes if they carefully wrapped and padded be smuggle in their rectum.

Even visitors try to hide the illegal drugs on their person and worse inside their bodies to avoid being detected. Another form to contraband in to put drugs inside some food items or beverages. Also the mail system is another way to smuggle drugs. Some guards are distractive making these methods effective. The business of selling drugs in prison is very lucrative. This business is so good that mules and even inmates are willing to take risks because of the high financial reward it brings. In some instances, inmates stand to make up to "$7000.00 per week dealing heroine"

Another surprising way that drugs make their way in is by corrupt prison guards. There are bribe into it by offering them a good amount of many, such tempting offers that they can't resist. Is a shame that guards are taking this brides. Unfortunately due to the lack of good pay and proper screening and training is not surprising that the guards give into the opportunity to increase their income. Usually prison gangs are the ones in control of the majority of the drug smuggling. Some gang members who have established connections on the streets used their power to bring in the drugs.
