Anti-Globalization

It’s obviously a truism to talk about globalization— we claims that globalization is a double-edged sword; the influence of globalization has penetrated in politics, the economy and culture etc., etc.Nonetheless, I will approach the term from a distinct angle: post-globalization.

As it known, globalization is the increasing interaction of people through the growth of the international flow of money, ideas and culture. Gradually, there is a opposed attitude towards the trend and rises a wave of anti-globalization, the supporters even launch campaigns to convey their complaints. They base their criticisms on a number of related ideas. What is shared is that participants oppose what they see as large, multi-national corporations having unregulated political power, exercised through trade agreements and deregulated financial markets. Specifically, corporations are accused of seeking to maximize profit at the expense of work safety conditions and standards, labor hiring and compensation standards, environmental conservation principles, and the integrity of national legislative authority, independence and sovereignty.

They have found that as well— the wealth is being more and more concentrated on a small amount of people, which merely leads to a suite of problems: widen the gap between rich and poor, increase social conflicts, deteriorate the ecological environment— the list is endless. Hence, they firmly hold up the flag of post-globalization.

This term is also appeared in other stages, say, America’s president Donald Trump’s assertion. Originally, I have no idea why Trump— a business man with billions of dollars— reject global trade. Logically, he benefits a lot from globalization and it is weird that a American leadership loses the interest in globalization, which has been America’s proposition for a long time. Yet if analyzing it carefully, his implicit purpose stands out— his “post-globalization” is completely distinguished from the one I have mentioned above, it’s virtually a pursuit of more profits for America under the guise of advocating “post-globalization”.
