Introduction of the Yangtze Alligator

There are many types of alligators. The Yangtze alligator is considered to be one of the most ancient and endangered reptiles whose amounts are decreasing quickly for present.

Nowadays, Yangtze alligator is only found in China and their diet

Depends on where they live. They are mainly distributed in the lakes, ponds and swamps around the lower Yangtze River in China. They always seclude in the caves on the sides of the river in the daytime and only hunt at night. The Yangtze alligator has been in the habit of eating tiny invertebrates and vertebrates, for instance, mussels, frogs, chickens and ducks.

It is not only one of the smallest crocodile species but also lives long. They are able to grow up to 1 to 2.1 meters long and approximately weigh 36 to 44.4 kilograms. Specially, their lifespan is around 60 to 80 years on average. Some individuals can even exceed 100 years, which is quite longer than other animals.

The appearance of the Yangtze alligator is distinctive. Their head is flat with extruded and subulate snout, which has sharp teeth inside. What allow them to make sudden moves and initiate swimming is their squat and powerful limbs and webbed feet with sharp claws. Besides, their stocky skin varies from dark green to black, mainly covered with ossified scales, which provide protection from enemies.

The physiology of the Yangtze alligator depends they’re one of the smallest and the most longstanding crocodiles. They principally distribute in China and eat little animals around. We are called upon to offer a hand to protect them for their constant living.
