INTRODUCTION

A historical Heritage is an official location where pieces of political, military, cultural, or social history have been preserved due to their cultural heritage value. Historical site are usually protected by law, and many have been recognized with the official national historical site status. A historical site may be any building, landscape, site or structure that is of local, regional, or national significance.

Historical heritage sites are often maintained for members of the public to be able to visit. Visitors may come out of a sense of nostalgia for bygone eras, out of wishing to learn about their cultural heritage, or general interest in learning about the historical context of the site. Many sites offer guided tours for visitors, conducted by site staff who have been trained to offer an interpretation of life at the time the site represents. A site may also have a visitor center with more modern architecture and facilities, which serves as a gateway between the outside world and the historic site, and allows visitors to learn some of the historical aspects of the site without excessively exposing locations that may require delicate treatment.

This research aims to study the vitality of Fort Santiago as a historical heritage .

We choose Fort Santiago because it is symbolized for vitality and is one of the most important historical in manila. Several lives were lost in its prisons during the Spanish Colonial Period and World War II.

Fort santiago is a citadel first built by Spanish conquistador , is only part of intramuros actually intramuros is a city built by the spanish when the philippines was colonies by the spanish more than 300 years so the city was called intramorous because the entire city which is only about 64 hectares of land surrounded with walls , Intra means inside muros means walls so the military head quarters fort santiago named after that saint decorating the gate santiago or saint james in english the patron saint of spanish soldiers.
