We are gathered here today in memory of our Mommy Day- Mrs. Estrella Quano, so that together we may share our joy in the gift that her life brought to us, and the pain that her passing brings.  The death of a loved one is undoubtedly one of the hardest things to come to terms with. We all know that Mama Day is in a better place, but her absence on Earth leaves a gaping hole in our hearts. The days following the tragedy are often full of sorrow, especially during the funeral. This funeral, though, is not only a place of mourning, but a place of honor.

It was on a Saturday, specifically the 11th of July 2015, while I was conducting a midterm examination among my graduate students in UV, when Ptr Ric, my husband texted me that Mommy Day has gone with the Lord.  I was so devastated when I received the news of her passing. You see, a day before Mommy died, I visited her at the hospital and I was able to kiss and hug her and I even prayed with her. I never knew that it’d be one of my last moments with her.

Ecclessiastes 3 has this to say about our lives and moments here on earth:

To everything there is a season, A time  for every matter under heaven, A tine to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck what is planted. A time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn, a time to keep and a time to cast away.

Truly, we all have the time we need and we all have the time to spend, but we do not and cannot have all the time we want. Mommy Day had a beautiful life, which she shared with everyone and one of the ways that she was able to share her love was thru her cooking. Everybody loved her cooking, in fact, she cooked the best BIKO that I have ever tasted.

Mommy Day, was also known for how she carried herself. She was a very good looking woman. She kept herself well groomed and she had great fashion sense. But what’s important and most memorable about her is found underneath her appearance –her character. She was a good mother, a good friend, a good person and a good woman. She was always a mother first, and that is how I will always remember her. Even though I am not her biological daughter, she had always been like a mother to me and I am forever thankful Mommy Day for your love and generosity.
