The First Indian-American Daughter Life

“The Way of Wounds” is a creative non-fiction essay, which wrote by Natanya Pulley, is telling us the story about first Indian-American daughter who has grown up in Utah and responsible to live independently. She has the closest relationship with her mother rather than the other member of her family. She also has learned a lot of things from her mother’s stories and journal of her mother’s life. Furthermore, she learned most of them from other people’s mistake.

She is a type of person who learned stories and watched her ways. As first daughter, she pushed herself into a strong person who can do everything alone. She reveals, “First Daughter inherits the world. The name. The line. The clan.” And she also add, “She cleans the stomach and wipes sweat from her forehead without getting blood on herself. First Daughter knows it all, learned it all from stories and watching and from a locust that lives in her ear” (Pulley 6). From this quote, her characters are independent and stubborn. Moreover, her character can be described as archetype of a mother; and they are strong, mature, and visualize person.

Pulley said, “I try to keep my head facing forward”(3). This statement is clearly shows the independent character of her. She pushed herself. Another quote that supports this statement is when she said, “First Daughter knows it all learned it all from stores and watching from a locust that lives in her ear”(6).

             Another of her characteristic is stubborn. She is a type of person who will show dogged determination not to change one's attitude or position on something, especially in spite of good arguments or reasons to do so. For the example, “First Daughter chooses the sheep to slaughter and makes it happen. She cleans the stomach and wipes sweat form her forehead without getting blood on herself”(Pulley 6). From this quote, she strongly believes that she as a first daughter can do anything by herself. And this is supported by this quotes, “It will be my job to bury my parents”(6). Even her parents
