Writing Assignment Unit 8

Well, reflecting back on these two assignments I was very overwhelmed, and I had forgotten a great deal from earlier school days. Since doing these essays I have self-studied extra processes since the instructor’s comments were to check the sentence structure has a main subject and a verb. I do understand what is a verb, but as for the “main subject” not as clear on what is meant, is it the same as the noun or is it the topic of the essay? I must also remember to write in a third-party, this is very hard for me, I tend to forget in the middle of the composition. I have to learn to go back check again and double check once more. Each essay has been a learning process, although I do not see any improvement from the first to the last one. I was not fond of writing in the beginning. Nevertheless, I'm not just haphazardly doing the assignments either.

I am honestly trying; on the other hand, I have seen no improvement in myself. Consequently, I cannot begin to suggest any changes in the process that I should make. On the other hand, I should have returned to college in my earlier years. Although the processing I use has improved somewhat by creating a better process to help by not sitting and staring at a blank computer screen. As an example, I now read the assignment, and I reread again. Researching the topic while making notes, itemizing points, and I even took the instructor's idea using a whiteboard.

As a result, I purchased a big whiteboard, and now I jot down notes on the whiteboard (saving me a lot of paper and ink) that I can stare at while using the computer. This change in my process seems to help my thought significantly, just not reflecting in my grades. As a result, in getting the words to flow in my thoughts, currently I just have to learn proper placement of the words in the essay. So looking at this from a different angle and reflecting on a quote I read "Thomas Edison's teachers said he was "too stupid to learn anything." He was fired from his first two jobs for being "non-productive." As an inventor, Edison made 1,000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing the light bulb. When a reporter asked, "How did it feel to fail 1,000 times?" Edison replied, "I didn’t fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps." (Uky.edu, n.d. Line 7)

As a result of my relating to the quote, I will keep trying to write, I will not give up no matter how dissatisfied I am with my grades. I would not change any insights on these two assignments if you're referring to the beliefs of what I wrote about in the essays. Here are the essays I have chosen unedited copy and pasted exactly the way I turned in.

Unit 1 Writing Assignment

Jan 10 2015

The lesson in Alexis’s “Indian Education” he learns to stand up for himself and be proud of his heritage despite the hindrance that self-pity has on oneself. Portrays how discrimination can alter your choice in which path that you are going to take. He had seen what poverty, culture, and social identity crisis can do when self-esteem is lost. How it can lead to substance abuse and economic displacement. He learned from everybody around him including family, friends, enemies and his elders. How his culture and home life affect his struggle to keep his eager uniqueness with all the negative influence around him. He envisions himself as another person Victor, because he fears that the little Indian boy Junior will not survive the chaos of self-pity and hopelessness that he grew up with around him.

I had very much the same lessons growing up as everyone does in a sort. We all have the same emotions whether from society, politics or our own disillusionments in our culture or own identity crisis. We all face some type of prejudice throughout our day-to-day lives. What matters is what we take away from the unfairness or prejudice. Therefore, in learning this I have gained knowledge about myself by much soul-searching. I have watched my family, friends, and others around me and learned from how they react in the same situation. By keeping an open mind to changes around me, I learned that I create my destiny. Therefore, I come to the understanding that I am the one. I have to make the change for me, it all starts and ends with me.

As the reason why Alex chose to write in vignettes style, I am not sure. However, in the
