Lost Art of Handwritten Letters?

                                                   “The lost art of hand written letters”

    There was a time when my grandfather wrote hand written letters for my grandmother and when she would open the envelope, it would smell of his cologne. As she read the letters filled with black felted ink, written by using a bird’s feather as a pen, she would always drop a tear, if not more. Today, those letters have turned brown and crispy with smeared words, coffee blotches and line marks. Isn’t that imperfection more beautiful than a double spaced, perfectly written letter with alphabets exactly the same size and almost no mistakes?

 There was uniqueness in hand written letters, they meant something and a machine did not have to choose words for us or autocorrect the sentences, lessening the originality of it all. Today, we can choose between the different fonts on a graphical word processing program, ranging from Times New Roman to Arial Black and decrease the size of the alphabets from twelve to ten or vice versa.

Everyone has their own opinions and beliefs, but I would prefer hand written letters rather than a printed, faultless letter or a text message that was sent within two minutes after the ‘send’ button was pressed. Would you rather write a letter from scratch from your favorite pen, put it in an envelope, seal it and carefully put the post stamp on it as you walk up to the post office and put your letter in? Or would you rather open your computer or mobile phone and push the buttons on the keyboard while you plug it to a charger so it does not run out of battery and when you are done, click on the red lines under every other sentence to replace it with different words while the computer questions your writing?

I think sitting down under the sunlight, drinking tea and pouring your heart out on a piece of paper as you move your hands in a way artists do when they have thought of a picture in their mind and they pour it out in the form of art on a blank canvas, is beautiful. Twisting the words and turning the angle of the page so it fits perfectly with your hands as the words flow on the paper like warm butter on a freshly baked loaf of bread, is extremely admirable.

Humans have lost so much ever since they came into existence, I do not think they can afford to lose more. They have lost kingdoms, thrones, battles, families, each other and some became so engrossed by the fear of losing that they lost themselves somewhere in the process.  Hence, we should try to save the little things we have left of our ancestors and our past before the world runs out of humans like it ran out of dinosaurs and black rhinos.
