The controlled uncontrolled

Birth control is used to prevent pregnancy and other sexually transmitted disease. Teenagers should be allowed to obtain birth control without parental consent as well as protect themselves against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. If we put barriers in the way of teenagers such as parental consent for birth control then they will simply take greater risks, rather than stop having sex. The law states that minors can’t get birth control with out parental consent. I believe that being able to provide birth control to minors can decrease the rates of teen pregnancy and make teen sex safer.

it remains the highest among the most developed countries in the world. Approximately 750,000 American teenagers become pregnant each year (parenthood). 82% of these pregnancies are unintended (parenthood).

Parental contact requirements discourage teens from seeking birth control, even though they may already be sexually active. In fact “47% of sexually active teenage girls said that they would stop accessing all reproductive health care services from the clinic if they couldn't get contraceptives without first telling their parents” (Preventing…). This just proves that not providing teens with birth control does not stop them from having sex.

Most people argue that providing minors with birth control without parental rights will increase sexual activity. However an increase of birth control does not mean and increase in sexual activity just safer sex. Teenagers are going to have sex whether or not it's appropriate or acceptable for them to do so. All we can do is make it safer for them.
