Writing Assignment 2

Considering what you have read in chapters 10, 11, 12, and 13, students should have a firm understanding of the following: (1) the incarceration process, (2) what prisoners experience while incarcerated, (3) the difference as well as the similarity of women and men experience (4) the management of prison institutions. For this writing assignment students will take the point of view of a Warden of a prison and explain the complexities of managing these four points. Students will be expected to clearly and concisely explain a leadership style (theory) they would use to not only manage the inmate population but also the staff and best reflex what they feel is their leadership characteristics and style.

Students need to design an organizational chart that should clearly explain the hierarchy of the organization as well as the support staff used to assist with describing the correct flow of organizational structure. This chart should be on the last page alone. Students should use the library (ground or online) to find a empirically research article related to the leadership style they select. This empirical article should be attached to the paper when it is turned in. Students should incorporate points of the empirical article into their paper and properly cite the article in their paper.

The paper is due November 26, 2013, at 11:00 am. All papers should be brought to class and NOT emailed to the instructor. Late paper will NOT be accepted. On November 7, 2013, students will be allowed to bring in rough drafts of their papers to be reviewed. Citations are critical in this assignment and should be in text correctly. This assignment should NOT be longer than 6 pages. This does not include the cover page or references page, nor does this include the organizational chart page.
