Leonardo Da Vinci was born Anchiano, Tuscany close to the small town Vinci, that is how he got his name we associate with today, he was known just as Leonardo or as “Il Florentine since he lived near Florence. Da Vinci left Italy in 1516 when he was offered premier painter and architect, and engineer to the king. Da Vinci died at Cloux in 1519 at the age 67 he was buried by the palace church of Saint-Florentin. Da Vinci grave site is impossible to see because of demolish of the church in 1800.

Leonardo Da Vinci, (1452-1519) Renaissance, Madonna of the Rocks. Vinci believed his scientific investigations made him a better painter. His optics provided him with a better understanding of perspective, light, and color (Gardner’s Art). He also studied the human body and contributed immeasurably to knowledge physiology and psychology. Vinci believed that you can only absolute sense is inaccessible and humans can only know through changing images, he considers the eyes the most vital organ. Vinci’s has two paintings with the same name The Virgin of the Rocks (The Madonna of the Rocks) the same subject they are identical except two significant details. One of the paintings hangs in Paris and the other is at National Gallery, London.

Madonna of the Rock is painted with oil and the painting is over 6 feet tall it was painted on a wood panel then transferred to a canvas. The painting shows Madonna and Christ child and infant Baptist John and angel background with rock setting. The figures all having some point of interest in the painting like the virgin she has her hand out reaching for her son and her other hand resting on John shoulder. As John is praying to the Christ child of his return and the angel is pointing to baby John. Although we are all uncertain what this means it still is a beautiful piece of art.

The lines are perfect on the figurines sharp and edgy and colors are bright and dull at the same time the lighting is perfectly glamming on the waterfall in the back and also on Virgin. The red dress sets the silent mood of the picture making it more colorful even though there is not much color and the darkness of the art piece makes it seem sad and
