Unit 1: Turner Thesis Essay

        For those who settled on West did not really have of a positive effect. Even though numerous foreigner settle down on the West as farmers, many were not significantly prosperous. There were lots of difficulty to make profits because there were no way to ship one’s produce from the farm to the Northeast to sell. Those who moved to the frontier with huge hopes often experienced negative financial consequences as a result. Also, though Europeans moved to the South the frontier itself had nothing to do with the development of new “American culture.” Which mean, the frontier had also nothing to do with the development of a new American culture and was not financially beneficial for who settled on it.

        Furthermore, the frontier itself did not make the character of region. The region’s character shaped by many other causes. The first factor was ethnic and racial differences. When the whites moved in to the West, there were violence often occurred between the Native Americans and the whites. Because of this violence events, the white developed new weapons and strategy of battle which helped mold the West’s regional identity. Due to the topography and the climate, farmers from the West could not raise various crops. They only could grew wheat or corn, which the Western region then became known for. The West was shaped by the power of government and big business in the Northeast. The West used railroad terminals to ship the crops and make profits efficiently. The government spread power to make treaties with the Native American to stop the whites from taking out on their land.

        Last but not least, the western frontier did not set up the boundary between “savagery” and “civilization.” The Western frontier was less developed compare to the East. Though they were crude, the farmers’ ways were not “savage.” The farmers have a marked contrast with the ways of the Northeast. But, in this region, industry, big business, and manufacturing were big booming during this period. The technologies were quickly creating huge revolution.
