The 1920s decade was an exceptional time for Americans. There was a prevailing flamboyant mood throughout American cities that drastically influenced the country. The United States underwent a major cultural transformation in the 1920s with the introduction of new arts, profound inventions, and testing the limits of gender roles.

The arts were a major influence during the 1920s with the introduction of motion pictures, performing and modern art, music, and fashion. Motion pictures became an everyday part in the lives of American people, along with theatre. Music also transformed in America with the debut of jazz music. Jazz was created by the African-Americans in the South and traveled throughout the United States becoming popular everywhere. With the new jazz music came the launch of swing dance. Men and women across America participated in this fast paced dance. Numerous different arts transformed the United States during the Roaring Twenties.

The arts were not the only transformation, gender role limitations seemed to disappear and the automobile was introduced to America. Women in the 1920s began to dress in a way that was considered scandalous or racy. Some women who excessively pushed the limits were considered flappers or vamps. They were not afraid to show their skin, they danced how they wished, and they wore heavy makeup consisting of dark eye makeup, rosy pink cheeks, and bright red Cupid's bow lips. Women also began to drive automobiles, which were a profound invention. The automobile industry was booming and the majority of the economy relied on car sales, which help lead to the stock market crash in 1929. The women and automobile in 1920s revolutionized American culture.

The 1920s are referred to as the Roaring Twenties because American life was thriving with the cultural transformation from the debut of new arts, the automobile, and the change of gender role limitations.
